October has been filled with cleaning up the body/welds and building the custom air ride suspension for the truck all while cad modeling took place to get everything ironed out for the bed/storage design and upper ramp actuation. We are about midpoint as far as time frame goes and everything appears to be on track!
Front suspension has a total of 10″ of travel, 3″ down 7″ up, where the rear has about 14″ of travel, 4.5″ down and 9.5″ up. The front is limited by the oil pan/steer axle interference and the rear is limited by the frame rails since we decided not to notch them. Total ground clearance at ride height is 9″ so there is plenty of movement to drop the rear for loading and lifting the truck to prevent any high centering or ass dragging. I am considering putting a 1/4″ or 1/2″‘” Delrin “skid plate” on the rear underside of the tail just in case.
The other day someone asked me what I was going to name it? Most cars seem to have girls names and while I have nick named it Shelby Hauler reduced to SHLBHLR so it fits on a CA 1960 Legacy Plate, I figured a more appropriate name would be Carroll which could be a boys or girls name but the more I think about it I wonder if I should just call her Brittany as she will be painted Brittany Blue, the 2022 GT500 Heritage Edition paint color which is a tribute to the 1967 GT500. I don’t know if the early GT40/Cobra haulers Ford used at Daytona and around the US had a name, but if anyone knows please let me know!
